Although the wind howled, and dust and sand made everything feel gritty, we went for a walk. This is part of the land that was covered by the lake up until about 10-12 years ago. When the water and mud dried up it left these depressions in the ground. Those are shells, not stones, in the depressions. The mud is hard-baked now, like brick.

In some places you can see lines on the sandstone showing where the water lapped at it. The interesting thing is that scientists seem to think these things take eons to form, but the Hoover Dam was built in the 30's, the lake flooded this part of the land in the late 30s, and the waters receded about a decade ago. These ridges were formed in that time frame. Which means, within one life time. Not millions of years!

We walked west of the uhaul, which is a different direction from our usual walks.
