Sat. nite to midday Mon., 2/12-2/14

After we left the library in Overton, Nevada Saturday afternoon, we drove south of town to where we camped last year on Lake Mead. It's a dusty little collection of old, small houses on dusty little streets. Below it is a primitive camping area of several hundred acres. We're about 14 miles from overton.

First thing when we got to our camp site was to unload the trailer and unhitch it.
Then Steven turned the uhaul around and moved it over to the side.
Now the back door opens toward the lake!

This is the view from the door.

Looking southwest just after sunset. Las Vegas is over that ridge.

Looking south from the uhaul-camper door, around sunset.

The next morning, Sunday, Steven went for a bicycle ride. One of his tires was low, so he stopped to air it up with the hand-pump he keeps on his bike frame.
The dog (in foreground) went along and didn't even get out of breath!

I held the camera up high to get a picture without my shadow and partially succeeded.
You can tell we like to camp where we're not crowded in by people all around us!

"Oh, YES!!! Sweet! A million acres of litter box!"
The kitty ventures out to explore the desert.

We walked down to the lake shore to get water.
Small bucket is for the dog and the cat.
Large bucket is random water for dishes, laundry, whatever.

A lethargic afternoon in the 70+ degree sunshine.

"I am Sheba, lioness of the Mojave desert!"
Solar camp.
Solar panel for solar electric power.
Solar reflector oven for cooking.
Hanging above, on corner of uhaul, is solar hot water heater.
I used the hot water to wash dishes later the same day.
So far, the kettle has cut-up potatoes in it. (Homegrown)

Here's the battery being charged by the solar panel.
In the uhaul we have a 350-watt inverter to change the 12-volt DC power to 110-volt AC power, so we can plug in the lights, computers, and portable DVD player.

I soaked peas and carrots to rehydrate them, to add to the stew.
These were grown in our garden and dehydrated by me.

I put up some shelves this afternoon so I can organize some things.
This is looking from the bed toward the back door, passenger-side.

Looking toward the other side. Bathroom in back corner.
New shelf above window.

Nice touch, to have the calender with the snowy picture next to the view of the warm desert and the lake!
Every wonder why the calenders have cold, snowy pictures on the winter months, and
warm, sunny pictures on the summer months?
My ideal calender would be the other way around.
Who, in Montana, (and in their right mind!) would want to look at all that snow and ice in January and February??? All we had to do was look out the window! Ugh.

Oh, YES!
Bring on the warm sunshine.

"Hee-hee, I snuck this picture in again!"
("Shhh! Don't tell Susan!")
Adding a jar of venison chunks to the potatoes, carrots, and peas.

We brought a throw-rug from home, and that wooden stool that the cat is famous for playing with and under, for those who read our daily blog from normal life at home and have seen the cat playing with this stool from the time it was a wee little kitty last spring!
The cat does have a name. It's named "Nermal" for the cute kitten in the garfield comic.
We tend to just call it "the kitten"

Many things are normal here.
Steven doing a Sudoku after our morning hot chocolate.
7:30 AM, door already opened to let the sunshine and warmth in.

While I was cooking breakfast, Steven went and shot some arrows with his longbow.
He had the dog stay behind him while he shot.

And was training the dog to fetch the arrows!
There he is, saying "good dog!" to her when she brought one back and laid it on the
ground by his feet!

Just like at home, we have to travel a few miles of dirt road to reach
a paved road.
I'm on he back, holding the camera up.

Off in the distance is the red rocks of Valley Of Fire State Park.
We're camped just a few miles SE of it.

Flying along on the highway.

Starting down the hill into town.

Steven and I!
